Canadian passport processing latest info for immigrants- learn about visa processing requirements to Canada

These are my frequently asked questions. Before booking any international flight, you must meet the requirements: you may hate to miss your vacation because you leave the airport!

You will need a passport. In January 2007, Canadians traveling to the United States applied for a visa. You can still travel by car, train, or bus without a passport, but since January 2008, these travelers will also need a passport. If you have travel plans, we recommend that you obtain a visa immediately. Once you return to Canada, your passport must be valid for at least six (6) months.

How do I get a passport and how long does it take?

If you have a Canadian passport issued after January 2002, a new simplified procedure will be in place to obtain a new visa. Canadian citizens who applied for a first passport or a renewed passport issued before 2002 are more complicated. If you are domiciled in Canada (land immigration), you cannot apply for a Canadian passport and must follow a completely different procedure.

All application/description forms are available at your local post office. Please check the special circumstances of the Canadian Passport (my passport has been stolen!), The update and the office location to check-in in person.

Simplify your passport renewal

If you are an adult and want to renew your passport issued after January 31, 2002, without changing your name or replacing a lost, stolen, or damaged passport, you can take advantage of the new requirements. Simplify your passport. This option is only available to people over the age of 16 living in Canada who lived in Canada when the previous visa was issued.

This application allows you to bypass the guarantor procedure to avoid giving ID and birth certificates or nationality certificates. You must submit an application form, two new (2) photos, a $ 87 handling fee, and an old passport.
A personalized passport can be issued in less than two (2) weeks. It will take at least six (6) weeks to register your passport.

Normal passport application

For those who do not have an adult passport issued after January 31, 2002, they must use the full application form. This can be your first passport application, or your last passport for those under the age of 16, or living outside of Canada.

You need to have a guarantor for these applications, but the new rules allow almost anyone to sign up. Many Canadians can sponsor themselves with their passports. You must submit an application form, a $ 87 fee, proof of identity (i.e., a driver’s license), two photographs (2), and proof of original citizenship.

Similar to the simplified application, a personally deposited passport can be prepared by mail in two (2) and six (6) weeks.

What if I am a permanent resident (local immigrant) in Canada and not a citizen?
Make sure you have a valid permanent residential (PR) card. This is a necessary condition for you to return to Canada after a flight. If you are unsure of the PR process, contact an immigration expert like me or the Canadian Department of Citizenship and Immigration.

RP card processing usually takes 6-8 weeks.

You must also bring a valid passport from your country of citizenship. If your current passport is invalid, you must contact the embassy or consulate of the country in Canada to submit an application. Please note that the time, cost, and documents required vary from state to state. Some people can renew their current passports on the same day, others take months and contain a lot of supporting documents.

Depending on your passport, you may need a visa to enter the United States. The United States will not see Canadian citizens and permanent residents alike. The U.S. authorities will treat you as a citizen of a country with a passport. Be sure to check this situation a few months before your trip: Organizing U.S. visas usually take weeks or months.

Please sign if you apply in any form! Make sure you include everything you need, including fees.
If you require proof of original citizenship to apply for a passport, please make sure you know the location of your birth certificate or citizenship certificate! A Canadian passport will not accept your current Canadian passport as proof of citizenship. If you need to replace your birth certificate or original documents, please submit a lengthy application in advance!
